Gel Memory Foam vs Cool Blue vs Cool Touch
These aren't three different products — they're three related terms for how a mattress stays cool, and most of our mattresses use more than one at once.
- Gel memory foam is the general, industry-wide term: memory foam infused with cooling gel to reduce heat retention.
- Cool Blue is our gel memory foam layer specifically — a high-density, gel-infused foam that dissipates heat faster than standard memory foam.
- Cool Touch refers to the mattress cover fabric, not the foam — a breathable, cool-to-the-touch knit used on the surface layer, sometimes paired with Cool Blue foam and sometimes used on its own over a spring core.
How Gel Memory Foam Keeps You Cool
Standard memory foam is dense and slow to release heat, which is why some sleepers find it too warm. Gel-infused foam works differently: the gel — either mixed through the foam or set in an open-cell structure — absorbs body heat and spreads it across a wider surface area rather than letting it build up in one spot, then releases it faster than solid foam. It won't feel cold to the touch all night (the effect is strongest for the first hour or two after you get into bed), but it stops the mattress from trapping heat the way all-foam mattresses can.
